Writing
Writer's Workshop is introduced and notebooks are set up. Students learn the expectations during Writer's Workshop, and the format each unit follows. We begin with a mini-lesson on the rug in which a concept is taught. Then the concept is modeled, and the children are sent back their seats to attempt the strategy taught in their own notebooks.
In writing we will be focusing on the following topics:
Introducing the Workshop routine, Small Moments, Authors as Mentors, Realistic Fiction, Nonfiction, content area writing as well as fact and opinion.
We end the unit with a Writing Celebration, in which the parents are invited to hear our published pieces.
